BioPerine®, a natural bioavailability enhancer from Sabinsa Corporation, received Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) status after a comprehensive review of safety and toxicology data by an independent panel of scientists with international repute.
Based on scientific procedures and available comprehensive scientific literature, including human and animal data to determine safety-in-use for black pepper extract (BioPerine®), Expert Panel supported the determination of its GRAS status.

- An independent panel of recognized experts, qualified by their scientific training and relevant national and international experience to evaluate the safety of food and food ingredients, was convened to determine the safety of BioPerine® used as a food ingredient
- Status of BioPerine® as GRAS was determined mainly based on scientific procedures as well as comprehensive search of the scientific literature for safety and toxicity information on black pepper, its oleoresin and piperine
- Based on the critical evaluation of the pertinent data and information it was determined that the addition of BioPerine®, primarily containing piperine, to the selected foods, such as baked goods, breakfast cereals, milk products, cheese, egg products, processed vegetables, soft candy, soups, snack foods, beverages type I – non-alcoholic, imitation dairy products, hard candy, chewing gum, granulated sugar, seasonings & flavour is GRAS
